Located in Kotagede, there is a popular snack production, especially for those of who like chocolate. Chocolate Monggo was founded in 2005. Founded by Thierry Detournay, who used to come to Indonesia to work as a French Lecturer at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta.
Thierry Detournay always brought chocolate after he returned from his country, Belgia. In Belgia, people have a habit of consuming chocolate everyday. Because of this, Thierry Detournay always consumes chocolate everyday, and the problem, chocolate that he bought from his country was runs out. He has looking for stock in markets around the jogja, but some chocolate stocks in the market have melted and broken.
Thierry Detournay was born on March 2, 1966 in Saint Agathe, Belgia. He finally decide to make his own chocolate. Thierry Detournay began searching for Belgian chocolate recipes and making them. The material he made was from chocolate factory in the jogjakarta area which used to export chocolate. Well, from here Thierry Detournay started offering results to his friends and children on the street, then came up with the idea to sell around Malioboro and Sunmor(Sunday Morning) at UGM every weekend.
Thierry Detournay imagine his dream of creating quality chocolate and selling it to the market for souvenirs in Jogjakarta, so the name “Monggo” which in javanese means “ Please”. In one month, Chocolate Monggo can produce 300 pieces of chocolate with pricing ranging from 55,000,- to 300,000,-. Thierry Detournay also markets chocolate in other cities such as Yogyakarta, Jakara, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya and Denpasar.
